Radio 4 is meant to be putting out a piece this evening on the recent Museums Association Report about reduced funding to museums. They are focusing on Barnet Museum, who claim they are being asked to pay a commercial rent which they can’t afford for the premises.
They are not being asked to pay commercial rent.
I have copied my statement below,
“Public funding to the Barnet Museum was withdrawn last April after the council had to make savings of more than £13 million.
“We are really keen for the museum to succeed and are not asking them to pay a commercial rent. We are currently in the process of negotiating a new lease at an initial peppercorn rent which would see the community group running the museum at no cost to the taxpayer.”
I hope an agreement on the lease can be found soon.
