I understand you had the chance to break the lease for HGS Library, at no cost, earlier this year. In view of your actions, why didnt you do this?.

I’d like to make a community proposal but it is not clear to me what your position is on retaining the existing bldg as a library… whatever the proposal. Are you considering another use? If so what?

We did have an opportunity to break the lease on the Hampstead Garden Suburb Library earlier this year but that was well before we had concluded our public consultation on the future of the library service in Barnet.

So, as I’m sure you understand, to make a decision on the future of HGS library at that stage would’ve been wholly inappropriate.

We currently have no definite plans for the building. As you know, we don’t own the site so it is likely we would explore breaking the lease if no appropriate community proposal was forthcoming.

I encourage you to submit your plans for a local community library service and I can assure you, we will give serious consideration to any proposals we receive.
